The big day may have come and gone, but keep in touch as we’re always up to something new and exciting.
The Regulatory Standards Bill was opposed by 98.7% of public submissions - yet Parliament is pushing it forward.
That tells us one thing: the people’s voice is being ignored.
So we’re acting inside and outside Parliament to make our voices count.
Sign the Parliament Petition to make it official.
One message:
Withdraw the RSB — and turn the light on for democracy.

Petitioner Name
Bevan O’Connor
Title
Withdraw the Regulatory Standards Bill.
Request
That the House of Representatives urge the Government to withdraw the
Regulatory Standards Bill from the legislative programme.
Reason
I am petitioning the House because nearly every submission on the Regulatory Standards Bill opposed it, yet the Government plans to pass it anyway.
I believe this shows disregard for public participation and democratic integrity.
I think the Government is ignoring the 98.7 percent of submitters who oppose the bill and cannot be trusted to listen.
I feel that Parliament must act to restore public trust by urging the Government to withdraw this Bill.

It’s a Government proposal that would force every new law or regulation to be tested against a fixed set of “regulatory principles” — things like property rights, personal freedoms, and economic efficiency.
On paper it sounds like improving law-making, but in practice it could give unelected officials and judges more power to question or delay decisions that should sit with elected representatives. Read more here.
More than 98% of public submissions to the select committee opposed the Bill. People said it would favour property and business interests over social, environmental, or Treaty obligations, and could make it harder for communities and councils to act quickly in the public interest.
It’s a call for Parliament to remove the Bill entirely — not amend or delay it, but withdraw it before it becomes law.
No. This is a cross-community democracy campaign, not run by or for any political party. It’s about protecting the rights of public to be heard — whatever your politics.
It was initiated by Bevan O’Connor, a lawyer, business owner, and democracy advocate. Contact Bevan via his social links in the footer of this page.

Absolutely. This affects everyone who values fair democracy.
No, go for gold. You don't even have to be a Kiwi, or in New Zealand, or an adult, to sign the petition. Democracy matters no matter who you are and where you are.
